Day Three

By James Allen

For me, this year’s fast is aimed at stimulating a greater daily thirst for Jesus, that then sustains me throughout the day’s dryness, struggles and cravings.

To be honest, I don’t always start my day with reading the Bible. I instead choose to stare at other people’s lives on social media while I sip coffee and get awake enough to face the day.

As I stare at those other people’s lives I know I’m typically not gaining encouragement for my day but instead I’m often growing in envy and discouragement.

As I stare at other people’s lives I often don’t gain guidance for living a better life, I instead gain false thoughts and images of what better lives seemingly look like.

For me, the act of fasting is a purposeful emptying of 1 thing in order to be refilled with something else.

This year, in addition to fasting dairy, sugar, & complex carbs, I’m fasting from social media first thing in the morning.

For me, fasting social media first thing in the morning’s purpose is to stir my relationship to God that is asleep, napping and drowsy into a state of alertness & activity FIRST THING so that when the day’s cravings, struggles and demands appear, I’ve already received encouragement and guidance to get through them.

“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water. I have seen you in the sanctuary and beheld your power and your glory. Because your love is better than life, my lips will glorify you. I will praise you as long as I live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. I will be fully satisfied as with the richest of foods; with singing lips my mouth will praise you.”
Psalms 63:1-5 NIV

I encourage the church to get EMPTY EARLY so that you may get FULLER FASTER with HIS power and HIS glory!

Happy fasting Lifecoast!
